Adelante:
Adelante is dedicated to helping children in the discovery of the Spanish language and the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries around the world. This after-school event is hosted by Claremont Elementary School PTA though all Arlington children and parents are invited to attend.

Arlington Public Libraries:

Children's Spanish Chorus:
Arlington has its own Children's Spanish Chorus. While this program was created for second & third graders, all students are invited to join the fun!

Rehearsals are at Barcroft Elementary, Claremont Elementary, Key Elementary, and Randolph Elementary schools. Performances are county-wide. See: http://www.spanishchorus.org/Gallery.html

Educación Para Nuestro Futuro (Edu-Futuro):
Spanish Classes for children for the Spring of 2012 are now open!
For children from Pre-K to 8th grade, classes are taught by native Spanish speaking teachers. Provide academically enriching Spanish classes for your child today.
Educación Para Nuestro Futuro (Edu-Futuro) was established in 1998 by Bolivian parents, in partnership with Arlington Public Schools, who sought to meet the educational needs of the region’s growing Latino population. Since its inception, Edu-Futuro has worked to empower thousands of Latino children, youth, and families through education and leadership development programs. Edu-Futuro also teaches the broader community about Latin American cultures to enhance cross-cultural understanding.

Fairfax FLAGS:
Fairfax FLAGS has been doing tremendous work on expanding and improving immersion and FLES in Fairfax County for many years. Many in Northern Virginia are already familiar with the good work of Fairfax FLAGS in recent years, including the national coverage they received in the October 2010 Language Educator article, the positive reputation this organization has earned across the language education community, and their informative website.

Future Language Leaders:
This volunteer group comprised of Arlington High School Students was originally founded by a group of HB Woodlawn High School Students:

They are the "Future Language Leaders" project mentioned on this web page: http://www.arlcf.org/index.cfm/arlington-youth-philanthropy

Future Language Leaders has made multiple visits to the McKinley Elementary School Spanish Cultural Club as well as hosting community wide events in the HB Woodlawn High School Cafeteria:

¡Hola Baby!  :
¡Hola Baby! is a Spanish immersion program for babies, toddlers and young children.


The goal of ¡Hola Baby! is to have fun in Spanish at an early age and among friends! ¡Hola Baby! helps parents introduce Spanish to their child and/or reinforce the language with their child in a social setting. Parents with little to no Spanish language will learn alongside their child, while parents who are fluent or native speakers will receive support in their effort to preserve the Spanish language in their home. Children will also learn that Spanish can be spoken with friends as well as with a parent or caretaker!

The APS World Language Office (APS WL Office) is a great resource for Arlington citizens interested in APS World Language Programs:

The APS World Language Advisory Committee (APS WLAC) is a volunteer citizen committe which assists in the continuous study of world language programming. The committee reviews proposed changes and offers recommendations for program improvement, including the addition of new programs.

Ashlawn Elementary School:
Ashlawn Elementary has Spanish FLES for all students K-5. Grades 1-5 are on the traditional APS FLES curriculum. Detailed class materials for Ashlawn's 5th grade Spanish FLES class (as well as some 1st and 3rd grade materials) can be downloaded as Windows Zip file below: 
(Note this file is a compressed Zip which must be downloaded and un-zipped on your computer. It is recommended to keep the folder structures intact to give additional context to the organization of these FLES class materials.)

Ashlawn's Kindergarten Spanish FLES has been recently revised (but not its 1-5 grade FLES programs). The county office has updated and is gradually implementing Spanish FLES curriculum with a specific science focus in each FLES class.  In conjunction with the Science Office, curriculum was developed that integrates science goals for each year group with related content in Spanish.
County Central Office FLES web site: http://www.apsva.us/Page/2140 . Each Kindergarten FLES unit now has a Science content connections in which some scientific concept (The Five Human Senses, Farm Animals). In short, some Science is being taught in Spanish in this Arlington FLES class (which has been reduced from 40 minutes to 30 minutes in length per the revised Arlington County guidelines).
